Next games are at UBC “S”, which are the soccer fields south of the regular UBC fields. We play Kielbasa and Cheeky Monkey.

I literally cannot believe this. I mean…the odds…they must be astronomical…..

Next games are at Balaclava v. Holler Sacrifice and Britches N’Hoes. Jen, Steve, Eleni, and Paul are away. I think we need a male sub. Maybe that superstar from last Monday…eh, Jo?

Next games are at Winona N v. Likastik and Buck Fugly. We remain in Div 2. Since this is sort of a long weekend, we should be extra on top of attendance.

Next games…UBC rugby enclosure. For some reason, I think we’re going to have a real test on our hands….

We have received an offer by Holler, seconded by Buck Fugly, to play makeup games lost this week due to rain next Monday: either one full game; two mini-games; or 3 2/3rds games. All teams are scheduled for 6pm, and no games are scheduled after, so this looks very doable.

I’m quite certain this proposal will be agreeable to everyone, but I’m running it by you just in case.

Our next games are at Van Tech Turf - a new field in East Vancouver - vs. Likastik and Buck Fugly. Looking at the extended forecast however, it seems there is a fairly good chance of games being canceled for Monday. If that is the case, I would like to propose a team dinner at one of the following locations: The Reef (Main Street); Dix (Downtown); or The Clubhouse (2nd Ave / sushi) at around 6:30′ish.

For the last few weeks, I’ve been bringing an “energy drink” (Clearly Canadian) to the games and I have to say it certainly feels like it works (during the second game last Monday I felt great). I was looking at the ingredients, and at number one was a something called “taurine”. Now, many foodstuffs have mysterious and chemically dubious sounding ingredients, but this was the primary ingredient, so my curiousity was piqued. One Google search later….

Taurine, or 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, is an organic acid. It is also a major constituent of bile and can be found in lower amounts in the tissues of many animals including humans….

That. Is. The. Awesome. I mean, beyond how would they find out drinking bile would boost your energy, here is a completely natural, if by “natural” you mean “chemically strip a naturally-occurring substance found in the internal organs of mammals down to it’s base properties“, energy boost. Turns out it’s the major component of most energy drinks, such as Red Bull, and so on. But wait…there’s more. The always reliable BBC reports:

When we drink to excess, fat builds up in the liver, causing it to swell and reducing blood flow to this organ so vital in breaking down the toxins alcohol. Even one night’s over-indulgence can cause fat to accumulate. But some studies have found that taurine not only prevents this, it can reverse it…..

“According to our study findings, it is possible that adding taurine to alcohol during drinking could help to minimise liver damage and ward off a hangover”

Now, you forgive me if I’m beginning to think there is nothing taurine can’t do. Taurine, I’ve been looking for you ALL MY LIFE!! I will be like Taurus: Strong, like bull.
